In short
A crane is needed when equipment will not fit the elevator or door, when it is too heavy for the elevator, or when the route through the building is unsafe. Plan the crane position, the opening to lift through and coordination with the building and local authority in advance.
When you need a crane
- The item is larger than the elevator or door.
- It exceeds the elevator's load rating.
- Narrow stairs or a long route with turns.
- You want to save time moving a lot of equipment from a high floor.
What to check in advance
- Space to position the crane next to the building.
- A window, balcony or opening that can be removed.
- Power lines, trees and overhead obstacles.
- Permits needed to close a street or pavement.
On the day
The equipment is packed and attached at its lifting points, and the crane operator works with one contact on the floor. Work is done at quiet hours where possible, and the area under the crane stays closed.
